Our Story

The Rachel Quinn Children’s Foundation was created by Nathan Quinn, in 2021, after the passing of his wife, Rachel.

Rachel was an elementary school teacher and believed a good teacher could create a lasting and positive impact in a child’s life. Nathan was inspired by her kindness and wanted to find a way for her to still help children. Thus, the Rachel Quinn Children’s Foundation was born!

Our Foundation helps underprivileged children of Long Island with school supplies and educational resources. We wish to promote the values that Rachel inspired by giving out awards to students that embody the kindness and empathy Rachel taught in her classrooms.

About Rachel

Rachel N. Quinn (Battaglia) was born on February 6, 1994, in Smithtown, New York. Rachel was the second born child to parents Robert and Sandra Battaglia and sister to siblings Robert and Reanna Battaglia. As a child, Rachel was described as happy, loving, and caring, all qualities that transferred into her adult life. From the age of three, Rachel found her first passion, dance. She excelled in all categories of dance that she took part in and continued until she was fifteen years old.

Rachel developed a love for helping others and decided from a young age she wanted to become an elementary school teacher. After graduating from the Hauppauge School District, Rachel continued her education at Saint Joseph’s College in Patchogue, New York where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Study and received a Master’s Degree in Literacy and Cognition. Rachel was a dedicated student who also participated in many extracurricular activities. Rachel was a devoted member of her sorority and the President of Project Sunshine, a program that brings joy and play to pediatric patients.

After college, Rachel obtained her dream job in Hauppauge, the school district where she grew up. She was told that it was the best interview ever conducted and “The Rachel Standard” became the highest bar for future interviews. Rachel taught both fourth and fifth grade at Bretton Woods Elementary School, a job she loved dearly. Throughout Rachel’s professional career, she strived to instill the importance of kindness in every aspect of her classroom. She dedicated her time to shaping the minds of her students and it became one of the biggest passions in her life.

Outside of her professional life, Rachel was a devoted and loving wife to Nathan Quinn. In 2015, Rachel and Nate met in Patchogue, New York, the same town where they would eventually marry and call home. Rachel was a loving pet mom to their dog, Winnie, and cat, Colt. She loved spending time with her husband, family, and friends. Rachel particularly loved going to local restaurants in Patchogue, reading, traveling, going to the beach, listening to music, dancing, singing and going for walks. You would always find Rachel with a smile on her face ready to help everyone around her. Aside from being a teacher, Rachel’s dream was to marry the love of her life and have children of her own. Rachel and Nate were expecting their first child, Ellie Quinn, the summer of 2021. The world, unexpectedly, lost Rachel and Ellie on June 14th, 2021.

Rachel is remembered as a beloved wife, daughter, mother to be, sister, friend, teacher, and so much more. Rachel was a beautiful person inside and out with a true heart of gold. She was an avid member of the community and has touched the lives of all those who were lucky enough to cross paths with her. Rachel approached everyone she met with open arms and only saw the best in people. Her love for teaching and helping children will always be remembered and honored through the goals and missions of this organization. The world will forever be a better place having had Rachel in it. Her memory and bright spirit will continue through helping underprivileged children.

In honor of Rachel N. Quinn, Always Be Kind.
